Implementing Playtest Feedback

In the past week we have had a playtesting session for The Fat Fight and received feedback. The most notable feedback we received was on the initial camera angle, odd controls, more clear objectives, and too fast movement within the small first level were points brought up. The camera angle has been changed to be orthogonal for a clear view of the room and situation in the room. Additionally despite the simple mechanics the game ran very slowly to not at all on the laptops used in the playtesting session, so this is another aspect that drastically effected the playtesting feedback, as the lag caused for a greater lack of understanding and enjoyment in what was happening in the game.

For next weeks alpha release we plan to have clearer controls, clearer objectives, and movement added by November 2. Additionally, more models and animations will be implemented into the game, to be used instead of default assets for the characters.  We are also working on adding another level, turning the existing level 1 into an introduction level, fixing bugs in the game, adding new a interactable, and optimizing the game so it can be run on less powerful computers. This is largely a continuation of our original plans, with some changes being made, such as removing player jumping abilities as one typically would not do this in their house.

The most major discoveries were in regards to what people in the playtesting session thought they should do. Even after realizing that the food is food, and that the cat was eating it, very few people used the cardboard boxes on the cat without developer help. We intend to add simple graphics before levels like in overcooked to explain how these interactable effect the cat, and what buttons to press.
